As someone with Celiac Disease, for a long time I was very hesitant to eat the food from the festival booths. I was concerned about cross-contamination, even with the dishes that are labeled gluten-free and I was nervous about advocating for myself and my dietary needs. The thing is, at Walt Disney World, they’re so wonderful about food allergies and dietary restrictions, I’ve realized that all I have to do is ask and they understand. It’s not an argument the way it can be at a local restaurant, Disney does everything they can to support dietary restrictions.
Things I’ve learned along the way while eating at Epcot Festivals include:
Check the Binder
Every festival both will have a binder with ingredients for each dish listed. Often they don’t label every gluten free/friendly dish! Some dishes can also be modified to leave off an ingredient to make it gluten free!
Ask to Speak to the Chef
Cast members will call and confirm any allergy order with the chef, but did you know you can request a chef consult. Be aware though it may take upwards of 20 minutes to speak to a chef in person. This is especially helpful if you’re dealing with multiple dietary restrictions.
Book with your Fellow Gluten Free Travel Agent
It may seem small but booking with someone who knows dietary restrictions may be a game changer for your trip! I’m always a text away to answer any questions or provide guidance on how I handle my dietary needs while on vacation*!
*I can only speak to my experiences. I always recommend speaking to the chef if you have any concerns!
